Howard Arms, Ilmington - bad floodlighting

The Howard Arms,
Lower Green, Ilmington,
Near Shipston-on-Stour,
Warwickshire.
CV36 4LT

Excellent food, but no idea on lighting. The floodlight downlighters should be horizontally mounted, and higher up. If they are happy with the amount of light hitting the car park, then mount them horizontally and lower the wattage. Then no light goes above the horizontal and less electricity is used.

Have you asked them it they'll point them downwards?

Increasing the height reduces the intensity, therefore reduces the light in the area needed and would require an increase in wattage, also changing the angle may not allow for the area to be covered correctly resulting in the increase of units. (showing a photograph in this manner neither confirms that you are correct or that my suggestions would work)

I agree looking at the photo the solution does not look good but is not really conclusive, seeing thats all we have to go off.

The car park to the rear of the photogragh could be extremely large.

Sorry Phil, can't agree with that. Trying to provide better light by shining a single bright light across an area is a recipe for disaster. The flood of light created makes it harder to see, not easier, as the pupils contract to protect from glare. It's much more effective to locate 2 or 3 lower power lights properly, and have them pointing downwards, as this saves power, prevents dazzle and provides much safer lighting. At the moment this light is so angled that it must be wasting at least 40% of its light into the sky.
