Orkney Seafayre - lighting energy waste
Orkney Seafayre
Grimbister
Finstown
Orkney
Judging by the 8 days I recently spent on Orkney, the external lights around this building (there's another on the seaward side of the building) are left on 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Though there may be an argument for some light needed for security at night (doubtful, though, as there is a house only 30 yards away and intruders would be spotted immediately), having them switched on in daytime is simply a waste of money and energy. Seafood is usually marketed as a natural 'eco' food which depends on a healthy environment, so it seems strange that a company that trades in this business sector should be so careless about energy waste and light pollution.
