Stockport - Street Lighting Light Pollution
This is a photograph taken of a house lit solely by white street lighting. It is lit in part by the street light shown in my other photo of intrusive light from a street light. This photo shows how light is being allowed to shine well outside the limits of the road and pavement. It is a classic example of unecessary lighting that not only wastes energy but also causes intrusion where it is not wanted. These street lights were installed in May 2000 and replaced yellow low pressure sodium lighting, the type that is often blamed for light pollution. The new lights are using 60% more energy than the old ones and STILL pollute.
