Isleburn Mackay & MacLeod - misaligned floodlights
Isleburn Mackay & Macleod, based in Evanton, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland is an oil services company acquired in 2006 by the Global Resources Group.
This end of their Evanton workshop has two very badly angled asymmetric floodlights. Designed to be mounted parallel to the ground and throwing their light forward and down for best effect, these are titled up to about 80 degree, resulting in the main light beam shining upwards at about 35 degrees into the sky. This means very poor and unsafe lighting on the ground and at the entrance doors. The wasted light created shines into the sky, and the eyes of drivers on the nearby A9 - the busiest road in the north of Scotland.
In addition, these lights are left on 24 hours a day, so they waste a lot of energy. This photo was taken in February 2007, and they are still on 8 months later.
I've emailed Isleburn about this, suggesting that adjusting the fitting angles will provide better and safer lighting, and switching off when not needed will reduce energy waste. Oil industry companies are usually very sensitive about their environmental profile, so hopefully they'll be receptive.
