Isleburn Mackay & MacLeod - misaligned floodlights

Isleburn Mackay & Macleod, based in Evanton, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland is an oil services company acquired in 2006 by the Global Resources Group.

This end of their Evanton workshop has two very badly angled asymmetric floodlights. Designed to be mounted parallel to the ground and throwing their light forward and down for best effect, these are titled up to about 80 degree, resulting in the main light beam shining upwards at about 35 degrees into the sky. This means very poor and unsafe lighting on the ground and at the entrance doors. The wasted light created shines into the sky, and the eyes of drivers on the nearby A9 - the busiest road in the north of Scotland.

In addition, these lights are left on 24 hours a day, so they waste a lot of energy. This photo was taken in February 2007, and they are still on 8 months later.

I've emailed Isleburn about this, suggesting that adjusting the fitting angles will provide better and safer lighting, and switching off when not needed will reduce energy waste. Oil industry companies are usually very sensitive about their environmental profile, so hopefully they'll be receptive.

UPDATE:
No reply from isleburn yet about this, and passing this area last weekend I saw that the lights are still on, and still aimed incorrectly. A pity. I shall try emailing again.

Update:
still no reply from isleburn. Ah, well, i'd hoped that these days a responsible oil industry company would care more about the environment, or at least the public perception of their company environmental policy. Sadly it looks like isleburn mackay & macleod don't. Shame.

Success! I was passing this building on Saturday 5th April, and the lights were off and had been adjusted to the correct angle. Excellent. This will give much better lighting where it's really needed, and also save energy. So, no reply to my emails, but well done Isleburn for listening and doing the right thing.
