Pleasance Societies Centre - floodlighting waste
I was on holiday in Edinburgh recently, and visited Pleasance (also called the Societies Centre). It was only about 4pm, but all of the asymmetric floodlights around the building were burning merrily away - lighting nothing, but wasting loads of electricity.
In addition, the majority were incorrectly tilted upwards at about 60 degrees. Asymmetric floodlights typically direct light forward at about 45-55 degrees, so these lights are directing their wasted energy some 15 or 25 degrees into the sky. Essentially they're lighting the walls and roofs, and not the ground where needed.
