| Welcome to the Light Pollution Image Library website. There are 78 images in the library and 52 visitors comments about them. Light pollution and energy waste caused by badly designed, badly used, or simply unnecessary lighting, is a growing problem. In the UK alone, £100m+ of energy is wasted into the night sky each year due to poorly designed streetlights. Overpowered and badly aimed domestic floodlights, and unnecessary business lighting are increasingly adding to the problem. The purpose of this site is to illustrate examples of bad and good lighting, and hopefully through gentle 'naming and shaming' pressure to encourage individuals, businesses, and organisations to use their lighting more sensitively and considerately. Albums covering themes such as Residential Lighting - Bad and Business Lighting - Good' can be selected using the drop-down menu at the top left of the page. Alternatively, you can use thesearch facility at the top right of the page. If you have any good photographs illustrating light pollution problems in your area, or have a photo and story about a positive light usage experience, you can add this to the site using the form at the bottom of this page. UPLOAD A PICTURE To upload a new picture to the Light Pollution website, please read the following instructions. Firstly, please note that the picture must have been taken by you or you must have the permission of the copyright holder. Once you have uploaded the picture the copyright still belongs to you (or the current owner), although you should understand that images on the internet can easily be duplicated and used by others. Secondly, ensure that your image has been saved on your computer in the following format - it should be a .jpg, with a maximum width of 720px and less than 200k in filesize. If you are happy with the above, you can use the form below to browse for your image, and then click the upload button. Once you do this you will then be able to enter your details and information about the photograph. Shortly thereafter an editor will check your submission and make it live. Please note that not all pictures may be published - the editor may decide that the picture is not applicable to this site, or duplicates a picture already there.
